“Herbarium” is a traditional term for an educational collection of dried herbs.
I’ve long been wanting to learn more about identifying and using herbs, which is why I’ve begun writing articles for HANE, and have long promoted their online introductory herbal course and their online intermediate herbal course.
#1: The Accessibility
Many of us seek herbal education in our local communities. I’ve taken some classes in my community from trained herbalists that were excellent. But after returning to my own yard, identifying things never seemed as easy as it was in class, and there wasn’t a communication channel to ask the teachers or my classmates any follow-up questions.
The Herbarium has the advantage of being an online resource that’s available to members any time of day.
You’ll have access to trusted professional herbalists and resources. Learn at your own pace and ask questions in the forum.
#2: The Library
The number of educational resources for The Herbarium members is astounding. Members have access to downloadable and printable charts, references, and graphs. Plus, access to informative articles and videos. The number of resources, including podcasts and presentations, will continue to expand.
Members have access to all e-books published by the Herbal Academy.
#3: The Monographs
A monograph is a detailed study of an individual herb. The Herbarium includes a database of monographs, which is ever-expanding. Look up an herb and find quick facts, medicinal uses, beautiful images and botanical prints, and scientific research. You will be hard-pressed to find such detailed information at your fingertips anywhere else.
#4: The Forum
This is one of the parts that I’m really excited about. Sometimes I just need to ask a question. I’ve found instructions for making herbal remedies on the internet that were incomplete. Should I use the herb dried or fresh? Am I supposed to use the leaf, root, seed, or flower?
I really love being able to ask questions in the forum.
#5: Member Perks
Get discounts on online courses and workshops.
Overall, I found the whole membership site to be visually stunning, easy to navigate, and chock-full of resources that makes the annual subscription price of $45 ($3.75 per month) seem totally worth it. I’m really glad I signed up.
The Herbarium makes herbalism accessible to anyone with a computer and a good internet connection.
